Summary: Award amounts vary but average between $2,000 to $3,000.

Requirements:

  • Be an enrolled member of a federally or state-recognized tribe, or a descendant of an enrolled
    member
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Full-time enrollment at an accredited, nonprofit institution of higher learning.

SD Nurse Education Assistance Scholarship

Deadline: October 1, 2025

Summary: Scholarship amounts vary, not to exceed $1,000 per academic year per student.

Requirements:

  • South Dakota resident for a minimum of one year
  • Programs Leading to Initial Licensure or Registered Nurse Degree Enhancement
  • Must have or maintain a satisfactory GPA for progression in the nursing program
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • May apply only once per academic year

Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

Summary:  Offering one $2,500 scholarship and three $1,000 scholarships to area students who are currently or who intend to pursue a two-year or four-year degree. Applicants must be involved in 4-H, agriculture, and/or the Watertown Winter Farm Show.

Dakota Corps Scholarship Program

Deadline: Varies

Summary: The Dakota Corps Scholarship Program is now open! Students can log in to the new scholarship application site to review the scholarship library, which has a list of all available scholarships offered by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

To be considered for the scholarship you must: 

  • Have graduated from an accredited South Dakota high school with a GPA of 2.8 or greater on a 4.0 scale. Home school students will be allowed to provide supplemental information to qualify if the information for this requirement is not available.
  • Have 27 ACT composite or superscore or greater (or the SAT equivalent).
  • Agree in writing to stay in South Dakota and work in a critical need occupation after graduation for as many years as the scholarship was received plus one year, or scholarship funds will convert to a loan.
  • Apply for the Dakota Corps Scholarship for a school period that begins within one year of high school graduation, or within one year of release from active duty of an active component of the armed forces.
  • Be an incoming freshman at a participating South Dakota college as an undergraduate student in a program that will prepare the student to work in a critical need occupation.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or national

Innovation in Education Scholarship

Summary: LA Tutors provides students who showcase their creativity and make positive impacts with a $500 Innovation in Education scholarship. On an ongoing monthly basis, this scholarship is open to all currently enrolled high school, college, and graduate students who showcase their creativity while helping those around them (whether that be in a creative fundraiser, an inventive new app, series of blog posts on a particular theme, or another idea). 

Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in high school or college
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (or equivalent)
  • Must be a citizen of, permanent resident of, or hold a valid student visa in the United States or Canada

SDSWMA Scholarship

Summary: Applicant must be a South Dakota resident planning to pursue a career that supports protection and enhancement of our natural resources and environment, the solid waste industry and/or related fields. Requires three letters of reference and a cover letter that contains required material.

Summary: Applicants must be high school students 16 years and older, undergrads, graduate students, and parents and legal guardians of any of these students. Applicants can enter into scholarship drawing monthly

Summary: Offers awards of $5,000 for children and spousal dependents of military personnel. Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university and must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

HOWARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline: The 2025-2026 application cycle for Howard Memorial Scholarships has closed. New applications will be available in early 2026.

Summary: Applicants must be residents of Brown County OR plan to attend Northern State University regardless of where they live. Requires application, page one of the federal income tax return, and a transcript. Scholarships up to $3,000 available.

South Dakota Board of Regents Scholarships

South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship

Summary: Applicants must be South Dakota students who attended an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota. Requires composite ACT score of 24 or higher, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and completion of the high school course requirements commonly known as the Regents Scholar curriculum. Guaranteed to all students who qualify, $7,500 over four years.
