ABERDEEN, S.D.?– Northern State University graduate student Renea Taylor has been named the 2026 graduate recipient of the Outstanding Student Award from the Council for Exceptional Children. The national organization recognizes one undergraduate student and one graduate student each year for outstanding service to the organization and to children with exceptionalities.?
Taylor is pursuing a master’s degree in special education at Northern State University. She has been involved with her school’s student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children for three years and currently serves as president. She previously served as co-president beginning during her undergraduate studies, reflecting her commitment to supporting students with disabilities.
Under Taylor’s leadership, the chapter has become more active and visible on campus, with student involvement increasing significantly. Her recognition highlights both her dedication to the field of special education and her leadership within the Northern community.
“I was happy to nominate Renea for this award. She has been such a valuable member and leader of our CEC group on campus for the last few years. She will be missed when she graduates this spring.,” said Cheryl Wold, professor of special education at Northern State University.
Taylor will be recognized at the Council for Exceptional Children’s 2026 Convention and Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah.
